 courses in Mecca
The 1942 flood was the worst in 100 years. Mecca is divided into 34 districts. Makkah is one of the lowest cities in the Hijaz region, situated at an elevation of 277 m (909 ft) above sea level at 21º23'N and 39º51'E. Historic traditional houses built of local stone, up to three stories long, are still downtown gifts overlooking modern hotels and shopping malls. This is one of the lowest rates in the Hejaz area. Mecca's economic system is primarily limited to the production of textiles, furniture, and tools. Severe thunderstorms are also not uncommon in winter. Summer temperatures are very warm, consistently dropping below 40°C (104°F) during the day and down to 30°C (86°F) in the evening, but the humidity is surprisingly low at 30-40%. Makkah has a warm desert climate with three distinct plant hardiness zones. Today, the total area of Mecca is over 1,200 square kilometers (460 square miles).
